Clashes erupted between police and hundreds of members of the English Defence League during a planned protest in Nottingham.

Hundreds of officers surrounded around 500 EDL supporters in the city centre.

Police on horseback used batons and those on the ground used dogs to contain the violence.

A Nottinghamshire police spokesman told Sky News tempers flared this afternoon when some protesters tried to move from the site of their protest.

"Prior to the protest we engaged with the organisers to agree on where they would meet, but there were a few who were determined to go where we didn't want them to go, although they eventually complied," he said.

"We feel we had the proper planning in place and as far as we're concerned it went very successfully."

Officers arrested four people, including one who was taken to hospital after being bitten by a police dog.

During the protest, some EDL supporters shouted: "We want our country back", and waved placards which read: "Protect Women, No To Sharia" and "No Surrender".

The EDL claims it is not a racist organisation and has no links to the BNP and it is making a stand against the threat of Islamic extremism.

A spokesman said they had planned the demo for today as the Mercian Regiment were holding a homecoming parade in Nottingham following a recent tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The Unite Against Fascism group had also organised a counter demonstration in response to the protest.

Not making his already terrible situation any better, a girl dressed in a bikini and jeans stood outside Tiger Woods’ home Friday afternoon (December 4).

The blonde female stood at the entrance of Woods’ gated Windermere, FL home, holding up a sign reading, “TIGER- THEY OFFERED ME $500,000 - I’M KEEPING MY MOUTH SHUT!”

In other Tiger drama, another woman has come forward claiming she had a long-term affair with Woods. And to prove it, she has already hired a lawyer, according to TMZ.

Female number four is claiming that she and Tiger began a two-year affair back in 2004 (when she was 20) near Woods’ home in Orlando, FL.

Viggo Mortensen was a suprise guest at the Montreal Centennial Cermony last night in Montreal. He introduced one of the best players of all time Guy Lafleur. His speech was done in English and French. He spoke french well. According, to the Canadian Press, he shook hands with each player in the dressing room before the game. When asked about the game he responded, "It was awesome," and "I'm sure Cammalleri will never forget tonight."

The Port Charles Police Department has released a the mug shot of artist Franco (played by occasional movie star James Franco), who is accused of a serious crime in the fictional city featured on ABC’s hit soap General Hospital.

Viewers still have a lot to learn about Franco, who has slept with Maxie Jones in an attempt to get closer to someone else in Port Charles.

Reps for the show confirm that the mystery surrounding Franco’s graffiti tag CO77X will be revealed in an upcoming episode, airing Dec. 11.

Hey all! I was wondering if the lovely people in the community could help me out with something...

I'm going to London for a university trip (I go to University of Connecticut, sadly) from Dec. 29-Jan. 14... the focus of the trip is "Arts in England," and the point is that we're writing a long term paper on something we encounter in London and will work on throughout the next semester back in the U.S.



So, I'm trying to convince the professors to let me do the paper on our beloved television series Doctor Who, trying to explain the significance of "The End of Time" (well, part 2) since I'll be in England when it plays.



My question is... does anyone know of anything I can physically go to while I'm in London to support this? I mean, in my opinion there should be a Ten public mourning :)

Secondly, does anyone have ideas on a topic? My lovely doctorate student boyfriend suggested discussing how not only is Doctor Who a huge part of British culture, but it has actually written itself into it (i.e. Love's Labour's Won, Agatha Christie, Dickens) -- I'll assume do to page restraint etc, I'll probably just focus on the new series...



Thanks so much for your help! I come to you guys first because you are the experts, of course :D
(Also, if anyone, esp UK-ers, have places I should check out on my free time, that would be great too!!!)

Stepping out for a night on the town, Robert Pattinson was spotted checking out a friend’s band at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood on Friday (December 4).

Doing his best to hide from awaiting paparazzi, the Edward Cullen stud was escorted though a parking garage by a security team - proceeding to head back to his hotel with a couple of pals.

Charlie Crist Phone Message Directed Callers To Phone Sex Hotline

Florida Governor Charlie Crist mistakenly directed callers to a phone sex line in a recording that played when callers to KidCare, the state's child health care program, were put on hold. The governor explained that script he read for the recording was incorrect and that "there was no malice intent." The recording was in use for at least two months. To get to the sex line, KidCare callers had to dial the number listed by Gov. Crist, then call the phone number listed by that recording.

The Palm Beach Post first reported the the mistake and posted a recording of what callers would hear if they followed the steamy phone tree to the end.

Woman's voice:

"Hey there, sexy guy. Welcome to an exciting new way to go live, one on one, with hot, horny girls waiting right now to talk to you."

Apparently, Crist's mistake isn't that uncommon. The Post found four more instances of government publications in West Palm Beach, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and Virginia that direct callers to the same number

AOL News reports that the recording has been changed, "Current KidCare callers are greeted by an anonymous, almost robotic voice, which offers sexy guys no help whatsoever."
